Yesterday, I went to my high school to do some observation hours that are required for my degree.
And I was basically given a teaching position there when I graduate.
The current choir teacher at the highschool is my former middle school choir teacher, and she moved up during my senior year. She's a goofy middle age woman who is a lot of fun, and I admire her a lot. She's extremely good with kids of all ages, especially middle school and high school, and while I observed, I noticed that she does a lot of things really really really well.
Her and I sat down during her planning period to chat, and she asked me what my plans were. I told her how I was a double major and planned on going right to grad school, I just wasn't sure for what quite yet. She asked me where and I told her NYU and Cincinnati, and she seemed really interested in the time frame. I told her probably 2013 or 14 would be the time I would be done with grad school. And then she said "well, I have another career plan lined up for me in the future, so whenever you graduate and are looking for a job, let me know and I'll gladly give you this one".
I was like... what?! haha. She said "I just have this picture of you teaching here, and I want to go to nursing school. So let me know when you're looking for a job and I'll give you this one!"
So basically, I already have my first job lined up. Even though it's at my own high school, a job is a job and especially being my first job.
The thing is, is that I was considering dropping my education major, but after observation hours, I've decided against that idea. I really want my education degree, it'll be in Grad school that will determine what I want more - education or performance. I suppose we'll have to see.

Wow. That's really cool of her. I have a lot of sec. ed major friends who are having a hard time finding jobs.
I actually was sec ed before, but realized I just couldn't teach to kids who didn't care. So I dropped that and now I hope to teach English at the college level. I have a lot of work ahead of me... haha.
Thanks for adding me to your blogroll btw! : )
If I had a blogroll, I'd gladly return the favor... maybe I should start one...
