Kinda bummed.

So yesterday, I had a meeting with the opera director about my audition. We're allowed to sign up for time with her and the vocal coach/director if we'd like to discuss it but I only signed up for a time with her. When I walked in, the first thing she said was "you're the one I've been waiting to talk to", and I said "uh oh" haha, because I got really nervous that I had messed up royally and she had numerous things she wanted me to fix. But I was wrong. "You're audition blew me away. I did not expect you to perform as well as you did... you were so connected to your audition pieces and you sang them beautifully. The reason why we took so long to put the cast list up was because I kept trying to figure out how I can put you in this show, but there just wasn't a part for you. And that makes me upset because I really wanted to reward you for your audition. I believe early music is what you need to be singing".

So great. Yeah, it was nice to go in and know that my audition went really well and that she wanted to cast me, but the fact is is that she didn't. It just kinda bums me out because it was the first time I sang really well in an audition and know I did, and still not get cast. But it's okay - I'm still working out and I'm thinking about audition for the one act plays later this semester so that I can perform somehow. Oh well.

I've been downloading a lot of movies lately because.. well.. I can. And I just watched Shelter. It came out two years ago or so and I've been wanting to see it but couldn't figure out how without buying here!'s service or just buying the dvd. I love this movie. I'm a sucker for movies where young gay couples are involved, and I really recommend this movie to everyone (if you like gay movies, that is). Does anyone know any other good gay-themed movies that I should watch next?

You should get 'Camp' and 'Latter Days' if you haven't seen them. They are quite good and feature young gay couples too.

I'm glad that you got such a positive comment from the director. One thing I have learned is to know who we are and be best us we can--so take her wisdom to heart and search for and audition for the music that suits you. Then you won't worry about not getting the parts that aren't meant for you.

As for gay-themed movies, my favorite is "Get Real."

I agree with Dane, "Latter Days" is a good one. The Donald Strachey movies are gay-themed ones that I own; Chad Allen stars in them as a detective and I LOVE them, but then again I LOVE Chad Allen ;o).

Glad you got a positive review, even if she didn't cast you. AND she remembered you. That has to bode well for future auditions, right?

Movies: Latter Days is great (I still cry at the end each and every time I see it). Get Real is a good one too. Trick is a cute little comedic film that always leaves a smile on my face. Oh, and Beautiful Thing! must see. Because of it, I ALWAYS tear up when I hear Mama Cass sing "Dream A Little Dream Of Me."

All this crying...and I'm NOT the type to cry at movies, honestly! but these are my favorites.

I second Polt's "AND she remembered you. That has to bode well for future auditions, right?"

And as for movies, I actually try to avoid 'gay' movies now. I just can't watch one more movie where a happy gay couple (who like Madonna and dancing) are upset with the news that one of them gets AIDS. They all seem so stereotypical.

There was one movie with a gay couple that I thought was interesting-Shortbus. lol

Shortbus is outstanding!!!

I dont believe any of the movies I recommended have anyone getting AIDS in them. And some of them don't even have dacing, although the characters may enjoy them. In all gay movies, everyone love Madonna, because that's just the way things are. :)

Shelter is a great movie! I usually don't like to watch movies more than once, but that one I've seen a couple of times. It's great.

Heyyy!!

man you should be happy that your talent was appreciated, even if not rewarded... yet! i m sure that you woud have your chance sson enough :)

And for the movies, i have seen like tons of them. And if I were to recommend my 10 favorites.. they would be the following in random order.

1. Latter days

Enough has been said about it.I really don't need to say more! I like it the best coz i can totally identify with Christian ( apart from the fact that I m more of a man than he is ! :P ) And I know someday an Aaron will come mah way and set me free from this pornhood :P

2. All Over The Guy

The emotions are so real. And the characters are life like! Acting... superb! there wasnt a sinle glitch i could find.

3. Poster Boy

A beautifully portrayed movie, with amazing cinematography. The story line is just too strong. It makes you think! A must watch for everyone's parents :P

4. Get Real

This was another sweet movie about coming out to everyone. the acting isnt that great, but i love the script.

5. The Trip

M not a big fan of mushy movies, but this one was cruel. I kinda cried towards the end. Again, true emotions displayed. Nice acting by a few people.

5. Shortbus

Oh man! Awesome! Deserved the Oscar Nomination in the true sense! Its so damn radical and basic.. and still so unexplored a subject. Its all about getting that one... nice.. outstanding.. orgasm :P

6. The History Boys

I adore this movie. one of the best movies i have ever seen. I m a little crazy and philosophical at times, and in those moments, this is the best thing to watch! Brilliant performances..... known faces... awesome score..... outstanding cinematography! Deserved the Oscar, again!

7. Philadelphia

I needn't say anything. We all know what an amazing actor Hanks is!

8. Wedding Wars

I m surprised no one mentioned it yet! One of the best movies set in a political cum social scenario. Its a movie about gay rights and the fihght for it. One man, makes it all happen! I was reminded of Atlas Shrugged almost immediately.

9. The Bubble ( Ha Buah )

A foreign version of a gay man tied between misunderstood patriotism and love. I loved it. And its so much better than the stupid silly laughs.

10. 9 Dead Gay Guys

Oh man... this movie is shit.. but its hilarious! The latent humour and the black comic sequels are miondblowing. Its a british movie, and its an honest attempt to display what goes on n the mind of a guy who thinks he is straight but eventually comes to term with his sexuality. And the funny part is that this aint even the theme of the movie. its actually about 9 dead gay guys.. Lol!
